Product Overview

The Cisco ®Nexus 7000 Series switches maximize scalability and operational flexibility.

The Cisco Nexus 7000 Series switch is a modular data center-class product line for highly scalable 10 Gigabit Ethernet networks with a fabric architecture that can scale beyond 15Tbps. It is designed to meet the requirements of most mission-critical data centers, providing sustainable system operations and ubiquitous virtualization services. The Cisco Nexus 7000 Series is built on a mature operating system that provides real-time system upgrades with enhanced features, as well as excellent manageability and maintainability. Its innovative design is designed to support end-to-end data center connectivity, consolidating IP, storage, and IPC networks on a single Ethernet fabric.

As the first next-generation switch platform, the Cisco Nexus 7000 Series 10-slot chassis (figure 1) provides integrated sustainability and features optimized for data center availability, reliability, scalability, and manageability.

Characteristics and advantages

Supported by Cisco NX-OS software, the Cisco Nexus 7000 Series 10-slot chassis provides a rich range of features for the data center to ensure the sustainable operation of the system.

Front and rear ventilation, vertical module slots with 10 front panel access and an integrated cable management system can support the installation, operation and cooling of old and new data centers.

A high-reliability and highest-availability design approach for the data center, with front panel access for all interface and control engine modules, and full back-end access for redundant power supplies, fans, and fabric modules. to ensure that cabling is not affected during maintenance.

The system uses two dedicated control engine modules, and the scalable and fully distributed fabric architecture can accommodate up to 5 back-end installed fabric modules. with the chassis midplane design of the 10-slot model, the whole system can provide a forwarding capacity of up to 7 Tbps.

With 8 Cisco Nexus O module slots, the Cisco Nexus 7000 Series 10-slot chassis supports up to 256 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports or 384 Gigabit Ethernet ports, meeting the deployment needs of the largest data centers.

Front and rear ventilation ensures that the Cisco Nexus 7000 Series 10-slot chassis can be used in the data center and meets the requirements of hot and cold aisle deployments without adding complexity. It uses two system fan racks and two fabric fan shelves for cooling. Each fan rack is equipped with redundant fans, and independent variable speed fans can automatically adjust to the surrounding temperature, not only reducing the energy consumption of well-managed facilities, but also achieving optimal switch operation. The system is designed for redundant functions for all fan racks so that hot swapping will not affect the system; if a fan or fan rack fails, the system can continue to operate without a significant impact on the cooling effect.

The integrated cable management rack can place all cables correctly and neatly on one or both sides.

The system has optional air filters to ensure that the air flowing through the system is clean. Adding air filter can meet the requirements of NEBS.

A series of LED at the top of the chassis provides a clear display of the status of the major system components, indicating whether the operator needs to perform further investigation. These LED are responsible for reporting the status of power supplies, fans, fabric, control engines, and Icano modules.

The cable management cover and the optional module front door protect cabling and modules installed in the system from unexpected events. The transparent front door enables customers to view cabling, module lights, and status indicators.
