Shulou(Shulou.com)06/01 Report--
In this issue, the editor will bring you about how to understand the dual-stack technology in IPv6 transition technology. The article is rich in content and analyzes and describes for you from a professional point of view. I hope you can get something after reading this article.
After more than 20 years of research and experiment, IPv6 has become a mature technology, which has the characteristics of a large number of IP addresses, smaller routing table, more security and so on, which provides a way to effectively solve the existing problems of IPv4. However, because IPv6 itself is not compatible with IPv4, the transition problem of IPv6 must be solved before it becomes the mainstream protocol.
At present, there are three basic technologies that can solve the transition problem: dual stack technology, tunnel technology and NAT-PT technology.
Dual stack technology
Dual stack technology is an effective technology for the transition from IPv4 to IPv6. Its nodes support both IPv4 and IPv6 protocol stacks. When IPv6 nodes intercommunicate with IPv6 nodes, they use IPv6 protocol stacks, and when interworking with IPv4 nodes, they use IPv4 protocol stacks with the help of IPv4 over IPv6 tunnels. through this technology, the information exchange between IPv4 nodes and IPv6 nodes is realized. Dual stack can be implemented on a single device, or it can be a dual stack backbone network. What is dual stack backbone network? All devices support the IPv4/IPv6 protocol stack at the same time, and the uncontrol of the dual-stack network is also configured with IPv4 address and IPv6 address. Examples of protocol stack and dual stack structure are as follows:
Dual-stack protocol has the characteristics of a variety of link protocol support and a variety of application support, and a variety of link protocols (such as Ethernet) support dual stack. The link layer in the figure is Ethernet. On the Ethernet frame, if the value of the protocol ID field is 0x0800, it means that the network layer received an IPv4 message. If it is 0x86DD, it means that the network layer is an IPv6 message. A variety of applications, such as DNS/FTP/Telnet, support dual protocol stacks. Upper layer applications (such as DNS) can choose TCP or UDP as the transport layer protocol, but prefer the IPv6 protocol stack rather than the IPv4 protocol stack as the network layer protocol.
Dual-stack technology is the basis of IPv6 transition technology, which flexibly enables / turns off the IPv4/IPv6 function and provides full compatibility with IPv4 and IPv6, but this approach requires a dual-routing infrastructure, that is, all nodes support dual-stack, thus increasing the difficulty of transformation and deployment and higher network complexity.
The above is the editor for you to share how to understand the IPv6 transition technology in the dual-stack technology, if you happen to have similar doubts, you might as well refer to the above analysis to understand.
