Editor to share with you how to use the Vista group policy to hide and restrict partitions, I believe most people do not know much about it, so share this article for your reference, I hope you can learn a lot after reading this article, let's learn about it!
Group policy is very powerful in windows XP system, but group policy also has many functions in Windows Vista system. The following is the method of using Vista group policy to hide and restrict partition.
Using the group policy object editor of Windows Vista, it is convenient to hide and restrict the specified partition, and the operation is not complicated. However, this feature is not available in the home version.
Open the running dialog box, manually enter "gpedit.msc" to enter the group policy object editor, select "user configuration", navigate to "user configuration → management template → Windows component → Windows explorer", and after starting the group policy, we can hide and show the partition according to our own ideas.
Hide the specified partition
Double-click "hide these designated partitions in my computer" in the right pane, open the properties window and select "enabled" (figure 1). You can see that there are seven default options to restrict access to partitions. You can make a choice in the actual situation, such as "restrict partition C only" here. After confirmation, you can hide the icon for partition C in the computer and Windows Explorer windows, and the icon for that partition does not appear in the Open or Save as dialog box.
Figure 1
Restrict the specified partition
The partition hidden by the above method is only a relatively simple method of restriction. We can still force into the hidden partition by typing "c:\" in the address bar, so we still need to keep thinking.
Double-click prevent access to the partition from my computer in the right pane, select enabled, and select restrict partition C only from here. After confirmation, you can restrict access to partition C. At this point, not only is the restricted C partition not visible in the computer or Windows Explorer window, but an error message pops up even if you force access through the address bar (figure 2).
Figure 2
Add a combination of partition restrictions
Although the above method is simple and easy to use, you can hide the most important C partition, but what if you want to hide other partitions? For today's massive hard drives, if there are more partitions, for example, if you want to limit E and F partitions, there may be nothing you can do through the Group Policy object Editor. However, we can modify the configuration file of the group policy to make it support hiding from other partitions.
For Vista, the group policy file is stored in the "% windir%\ PolicyDefinitions\" path. What we need to care about are the "WindowsExplorer.adml" and "WindowsExplorer.admx" configuration files. Please copy these two files.
Modify the WindowsExplorer.adml file
Open the WindowsExplorer.adml file in notepad and find the section that contains the following code:
Restrict only partitions A, B, C, and D
Restrict only partitions A, B, and C
Restrict only partitions An and B
Restrict all partitions
In fact, the above code is the corresponding option in the group policy. We can add new content here according to our own needs. For example, if we need to hide E partition, add the following code, and save and exit after modification:
Restrict partition E only
Modify the WindowsExplorer.admx file
Still use notepad to open the WindowsExplorer.admx file and find "" and "", the former is used to restrict access to the partition, and the latter is used to hide the partition. For example, here we still take the E partition as an example. Please add the following code in the two locations, where the "16" represents the decimal code of the E partition:
Replace two important files
Due to the permission problem of access control, we first need to modify the access rights of the two files, open the properties dialog box, switch to the "Security" tab, click the "Advanced" button to change the owner and make relevant settings. After obtaining the permission, you can complete the file replacement operation.
Now, we can reopen the hide these specified partition properties dialog box in my computer and select enabled (figure 3). You can see that the combination of restrictions you just added has appeared here, isn't it interesting?
