Google will soon remove its Google Play movie and TV apps from Roku streaming devices as well as from LG, Samsung and Vizio smart TVs. The tech giant will stop production from June 15, 2021, after which users will have to rely on YouTube to access the content they buy and buy new movies.

The shutdown was caused by the release of a new Google TV app that will eventually completely replace Google to play movies and TV. In fact, Google TV has replaced its predecessor on Android phones and tablets.

The good news is that most excellent TVs from Samsung, LG and Vizio support YouTube apps. In other words, some old models of televisions don't exist, which seems to disappoint customers who play movies and TV.

However, for most people, anything previously purchased at the Google play Movie Store can be found in the "your movies and shows" section of the YouTube Library tab. According to AndroidAuthority, you need to log in using the same account you used in the outgoing application.

Google also confirmed that Google Play points can still be used for YouTube apps and offered free movie points to some customers to thank them for their loyalty. However, while content in the Family shared content Library will continue to be available, any newly purchased YouTube content will not be available for Home sharing (you must purchase it through the GooglePlay website).

Last year, the Google TV app was released with a new Chromecast with Google TV streaming. You can download the app on Chromecast and Android mobile devices, but not on iOS devices. There is no word yet on whether the app will log on to smart platforms that are not run by Google.
