Shulou(Shulou.com)05/31 Report--
Nowadays, science and technology, digital and online news have become the focus of public attention. At present, the Internet, technology and digital are closely related to our lives. We should charge more fees for ourselves and master more knowledge in order to be knowledgeable and constantly improve our personal abilities. Today, Bian Xiao edited an article about the digital direction of Internet technology. I hope you like it.
It is reported that 88% of New year's resolutions fail, so why do so many of us make New year's resolutions every year? If you are like me and my friends, your New year's resolution will be implemented soon after New Year's Day and is expected to be completed. For example, our New year's resolutions often go like this: "when I'm with friends or family, I plan to stop using iPhone."I plan to spend more time meditating." (the last one is actually my New year's resolution for 2015; I'm actually confident to stick to it.)
However, our tendency to make New year's resolutions-- even if most of them end in failure-- may be rooted in deep human instincts. After all, the ancient Babylonians began to make New year's resolutions more than 4000 years ago. It is reported that their New year's resolutions often include paying off debts and returning borrowed agricultural equipment.)
So I have a piece of advice for those of you who are enterprising and will continue to make New year's resolutions this year. According to my experience, this plan can not only produce immediate results, but also achieve long-term success. The plan is to declare email bankruptcy in 2015.
What is email bankruptcy? In principle, e-mail bankruptcy is no different from financial bankruptcy. This is an operation that eliminates all email "debts" (such as unread messages in your inbox) and starts from scratch. (you can also add a temporary disclaimer to your email signature. Given the large amount of email we have to deal with at work, email bankruptcy may be your chance to empty your inbox with impunity and get a real fresh start. Law professor Lawrence Lessig (LawrenceLessig) declared email bankruptcy in 2004, followed by venture capitalist Fred Fred Wilson in 2007. I did the same thing last year, and I got amazing results.
If you need more compelling reasons to urge you to do so, check the following statistics: employees check email an average of 36 times an hour and spend an average of 13 hours a week reading, deleting, sending and collating emails. Whenever people are distracted by email, it takes an average of 16 minutes to refocus on the task at hand. The reality is that email inboxes, once our private storerooms for important information, can easily become a burden and engulf working hours.
I know very well why email is such a heavy burden. As chief executive of a global social media company with 10 million customers and more than 700 employees, I get hundreds (sometimes thousands) of emails every day. If I go to the board one day, I will open one email after another when I get home. The last time I took a week off, I spent several days dealing with a mountain of mail when I came back.
So, if you are exhausted by email and want to start using a clean email address in the New year, consider declaring email bankruptcy. This is not laziness or incompetence. This is a frank admission that your email is out of control and promises to manage your communication more effectively as we approach 2015.
Of course, I don't recommend that you make email bankruptcy a habit of regular execution, or ignore replying to emails from now on (because you know you'll end up deleting emails in bulk anyway). Email bankruptcy obviously happens only once every few years, otherwise it will backfire and damage your reputation. Before declaring email bankruptcy, you may also want to make sure that your boss doesn't blame you. But, to be honest, if you don't have enough time to respond to accumulated emails anyway, I don't see a better way.)
The following is an example of a disclaimer that you can add to your email signature before deleting all unread emails:
"I'm sorry if I didn't reply to your last email. In order to become a better communicator in 2015, I recently declared email bankrupt."
I wish you all a happy email bankruptcy announcement!
