One might wonder what value technology can have? Don't you just move the brick code? Don't you want to turn the world upside down? Yes, many people think that the main thing is to achieve product requirements and ensure that the code running online is not problematic. Thank God. As for wanting to change the world, Big Brother, wake up, stop dreaming, move bricks quickly, and dig fewer holes for the people behind you...

Having said that, I don't really agree with the above. To paraphrase a sentence from Xingye: "If a man has no dreams, what's the difference between him and salted fish?"

Based on this, today I mainly talk about technical value from three perspectives: ensuring service stability, improving energy efficiency and enabling business.

service stability

The stability of online services directly determines the business data of products. Just imagine, Taobao in the double eleven zero point, if the login hangs, Ali will lose how much GMV and user experience.

So how do we improve service quality and stability? First of all, roughly speaking from the architecture level, we generally adopt current limiting, degradation, timeout, retry, redundancy and other strategies to ensure stability. increase efficiency

The Internet industry is fast, and if your product goes online earlier than your competitors, you have a greater chance of overtaking your competitors and taking market share first. How to improve the efficiency of the team?

First of all, we should improve R & D efficiency from the overall perspective, including development, testing, and operation and maintenance. If you only measure the efficiency of the development process, you will see that developers have a lot of code lines per day, even more than 1K lines per day. But will this bring demand online earlier? Not necessarily, if the requirement produces a lot of bugs, no unit testing and integration testing, let alone joint debugging, we will spend more time fixing bugs and regression testing. On the whole, the implementation efficiency of this requirement is actually not high, just moving the things that should be done in the front to the back, and doing so will greatly increase the risk, which will not be discovered until the testing and operation and maintenance stage.

Second, it should be quantified from the receipt of the requirements initiation stage to the online operation as the end, where each time-consuming stage is marked below. If the joint debugging phase takes a long time, we need to consider building a daily stable joint debugging environment. If regression testing takes a lot of time, we should consider building API automation tests to reduce regression time, etc.

enabling business

This is actually a capital that technicians can show off in front of their bosses. They can improve user promotion or GMV by introducing new technologies and new algorithm models.

For example, if you use the headline App to read articles or watch videos, it will involve the now-popular recommendation system. Then, one day, technicians introduce a deep sorting model, optimize recall and sorting, and as a result, the business metrics CTR or CVR are greatly improved. After these operations, the corresponding technical students felt that their waists were a lot straighter, their speech was no longer trembling, and their corresponding sense of achievement was also different.
