CTOnews.com, December 23, according to the latest report released by market research firm IDC, global smart TV shipments fell 5.5% in 2023 compared with the same period last year. It is expected that global smart TV shipments will begin to recover slowly in 2024 and grow slowly in the next few years.

IDC estimates that global smart TV shipments will grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.3 per cent between 2023 and 2027.

Jitesh Ubrani, research manager of IDC mobile and consumer device tracker, said

Against the backdrop of high inflation and a long renewal cycle, most of the growth in the smart TV market is attributed to emerging markets.

In mature markets, TV is rapidly moving from a media consumer screen to an ecosystem gateway, attracting brands such as Amazon and Roku to compete on price.

Adam Wright, research manager of smart home and office equipment at IDC, said:

Weak consumer demand in North America and elsewhere has put huge downward pressure on shipments in 2023, which is likely to continue for most of 2024.
