CTOnews.com, December 21 (Xinhua)-- Google announced last September that it would shut down its Stadia cloud gaming service and plans to stop supporting Stadia handles by the end of 2023. However, according to Google's official announcement, the relevant support date has been extended to 2024.

CTOnews.com Note: the Stadia gaming service, which was launched in November 2019 and can play a variety of cloud games on PC, Chromebook, Mac, iPhone and iPad platforms, was officially closed on January 19, 2023.

Shutting down Stadia is the latest cost-cutting move by Sandal Sundar Pichai, Google's chief executive, who said he wanted to make the company 20 per cent more efficient.

The Stadia control handle is designed to connect directly to the Stadia server via Wi-Fi, rather than to the host or PC, but each control handle contains an unused Bluetooth chip. As a result, Google has provided owners with tools to enable Bluetooth on the Stadia control handles, which will allow them to be used with local devices when the Stadia platform is turned off.

Google said in an official announcement that players can update the Stadia game console to use Bluetooth mode by December 31, 2024.
