CTOnews.com, December 20 (Xinhua)-- Tangara, an open source portable music player inspired by Apple's iPod product design, is about to launch crowdfunding on Crowd Supply for $249 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 1775 yuan).

According to reports, Tangara combines classic iPod-style design, open source software and open hardware platform (users can build custom designs).

The portable music player is the size of a palm and can be easily placed in a pocket with a 1.8inch 160x128pixel color TFT display.

In addition, the Tangara has a 3.5mm audio Jack and supports Bluetooth audio (only SBC codec is supported), so you can use wired or wireless headphones. The device also has a USB-C interface for charging, firmware updates and other data transfers, as well as a 2200 mAh battery.

In terms of core performance, the device is equipped with an ESP32-based microcontroller, Cirrus Logic (Lingyun Logic) WM8523 digital-to-analog converter (DAC) and Texas Instruments INA1620 amplifier. Tangara has a SDXC card reader for media storage that supports memory cards with the highest 2TB.

Tangara's current firmware supports 16-bit / 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz audio, but DAC supports 24-bit / 192 kHz audio, so Tangara developers (or other independent developers) may add support for higher quality audio in the future.
