The developers behind GNU Compiler Collection are preparing for the release of GCC 8.2 compiler. GCC8 remains open for bug/regression fixes and documentation updates for GCC 8.2, as this is the first release under the new GCC release policy, and GCC 8.1, released in May, is the first stable release of GCC8 for the project.

New features are being developed while still focusing on GCC 9, which will be released as GCC 9.1 in early 2019.

So it's no surprise that GCC 8.2 will have various regression bug fixes, mainly because more and more developers are trying this annually updated compiler after the recent stable release.

For GCC 8.2, one of the fixes we expect to see should be a solution to "-march=native" support for Intel Skylake CPUs and newer CPUs (affecting performance), this issue has been posted and hopefully will be submitted to GCC 8 in time.

Richard Biener, project release manager at SUSE, announced his plans for GCC 8.2 release candidate, but the actual release should come later. There is now only one P1 regression bug left to fix (the highest priority regression), which is related to the C++ problem. In addition, there are currently 110 P2 regression errors and 39 P3 regression errors.
