Shulou(Shulou.com)12/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, December 18, Tesla recently announced a recall of as many as 2 million vehicles equipped with its Autopilot technology, raising safety concerns and ongoing litigation questions. Lawyers for the plaintiffs believed that the massive recall proved that Tesla knew there was a potential danger when he launched the technology, Bloomberg reported.
Tesla currently faces a number of lawsuits related to the autopilot system Autopilot, including some fatal accidents. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) launched a formal investigation into Tesla's driving assistance technology in 2021. The recall recently announced by Tesla is related to this investigation, which mainly solves the problem that the Autopilot cannot effectively ensure that drivers keep their attention when it is turned on.
"in some cases, when Autopilot is enabled, the significance and scope of the control device of this function may not be sufficient to prevent drivers from misusing the SAE Level level 2 advanced driving assistance function," Tesla wrote in a recall notice issued this week.
Bloomberg reported that some plaintiff lawyers saw the massive recall, which affected 2 million vehicles, as evidence that Tesla knew it was dangerous when he launched the Autopilot function. "We believe Tesla is aware of the problem, and this recall proves it," said Adam Boumel, a lawyer who is reportedly handling a case related to the fatal accident in Florida in 2019. "
So far, Tesla has not responded to requests for comment from the media.
So far, 393 people have been killed in accidents involving Tesla's vehicles, according to the Tesla Deaths database. At least 95 people were killed when Tesla's car caught fire or when the Autopilot function was turned on.
The Washington Post reported that at least eight other fatal accidents occurred on roads where Autopilot should not be allowed, including a case in which Tesla's vehicle passed directly through a T-junction.
CTOnews.com noted that in November, a Florida judge allowed Tesla's lawsuit to go to trial on the grounds that it found "reasonable evidence" that Elon Musk and other Tesla executives knew there was a defect in the company's autopilot software. The lawsuit was filed by Jeremy Banner's family. Jeremy Banner was killed when his Tesla Model 3 crashed into a trailer truck in 2019 while the vehicle was using the Autopilot system.
The massive recall highlights the safety challenges facing Tesla's autopilot technology and intensifies disputes and legal disputes over the technology. With the deepening of the investigation and the progress of the lawsuit, more information about the safety of Tesla's autopilot technology will be disclosed in the future.
