After SpaceX put astronauts into orbit with a reused rocket in 2021, Musk said: "We don't want to be one of those single-planet species, we want to be multi-planetary species."

Musk also warned that there is a "population crisis" on the planet. Bezos also talked about the "main reason" for his resignation as Amazon's chief executive two years ago, and he wants to spend more time on blue origins, a move intended to add "some energy and urgency" to the company. After months of delays, Blue Origin will launch a rocket next week and it needs to move "faster," Bezos said.

Blue Origin launched its first manned mission in 2021, bringing Bezos to the edge of space, but its New Shepard rocket system was suspended after an engine failure last year. The company is one of many commercial space companies led by billionaires and currently lags behind Musk's SpaceX.
