Shulou(Shulou.com)12/24 Report--
Recently, many places in the north have ushered in a wide range of snow, and the sky and earth have become white when they go out in the morning.
Today we talk about the camera exposure when shooting snow: should we increase the exposure (increase the brightness) or reduce the exposure (reduce the brightness)?
Some people think that the snow is white, the brightness is very high, and when facing objects with high brightness, we need to reduce the exposure to prevent the photos from being overexposed.
In fact, this is a place where many beginners are prone to make mistakes.
The right thing to do when shooting snow scenes is to increase exposure.
The principle of camera photometry is that the camera first measures the brightness of the environment, and then adjusts the values of aperture, shutter and sensitivity to give a reasonable amount of light input.
If the environment is too bright, the amount of light will be reduced; if the environment is too dark, the amount of light will be increased. Make sure the brightness of the photo is normal.
So, what is "normal"?
The camera takes 18 gray as the normal standard. Simply understand, it is a kind of gray. Make sure the brightness of the photo is close to this gray.
The principle of white plus black subtraction snow is white and brighter than gray. The automatic exposure of the camera reduces the amount of light input and turns the snow gray.
Therefore, we need to slightly increase the exposure value of 1EV to make the snow white again.
Use the histogram to view the photos, and the photo histogram of the snow scene should also be concentrated on the right.
In addition to snow, when shooting other white objects, you should also increase the exposure.
Accordingly, when shooting black and dark objects, reduce the exposure.
This is white plus black minus.
Common misunderstandings will make mistakes if you do not have a thorough understanding of the purpose of adding and subtracting white.
To take a classic mistake example: when shooting at night, because the night is black, so reduce the exposure.
Why is it wrong? Although the night is black, we don't want black, so we have to increase the exposure and restore the details and colors of the scene.
Before adjusting the exposure, be sure to think about what kind of photo I want.
Take the snow scene as an example, the snow in reality is white, and the photos I want are the same as those in reality, so it is necessary to increase the exposure.
