Shulou(Shulou.com)12/24 Report--
IT House, December 14 (Xinhua)-- pinduoduo's cross-border e-commerce platform Temu has sued its fast fashion competitor SHEIN in the United States, claiming that its anti-competitive practices have intensified, the Singapore Business Times reported today. It is worth noting that the two e-commerce platforms have launched lawsuits against each other, but later chose to withdraw the lawsuit.
Whaleco, which operates under the name Temu, has filed a 100-page document with the US District Court for the District of Columbia, accusing SHEIN of orchestrating a "Desperate Plan" to weaken Temu's business, which is almost three times the length of the original lawsuit.
In a complaint filed Wednesday local time, Temu claimed that SHEIN had filed tens of thousands of infringement notices against itself, forcing fashion suppliers to sign "exclusive" agreements and threatening Temu merchants.
The complaint also detailed allegations that suppliers with product releases on both platforms were called to SHEIN's offices and forced to provide Temu-related account passwords and transaction records.
A representative of Temu said the recent actions were the result of SHEIN's escalating anti-competitive behaviour. "their actions are exaggerated; we have no choice but to sue them."
Previously on IT House:
Last December, SHEIN filed a lawsuit against Temu in the Northern District Court of Illinois, accusing Temu of signing social media celebrities to make "false and deceptive statements" to SHEIN when promoting Temu.com. "Temu is also trying to impersonate the SHEIN brand to deceive consumers into believing that Temu is related to SHEIN," SHEIN said in the lawsuit.
A spokesman for Temu responded that the company "firmly and categorically denies all allegations and actively defends its rights".
In July, Temu filed a lawsuit in federal court in Boston, suing SHEIN, a fast fashion competitor, for violating US antitrust laws. Temu accused Shein of using market power to force clothing manufacturers to sign exclusive agreements to prevent them from working with Temu, which has been in the United States for less than a year.
"as the dominant ultra-fast fashion retailer, Shein knows that manufacturers need to rely on its sales and its channels in the US market, so it also knows that it can force manufacturers not to do business with Temu," the indictment said. Temu also accused Shein of "undermining the expansion of the US ultra-fast fashion market".
In November this year, the two companies jointly submitted statements to the federal courts of Chicago and Boston, and the legal dispute between the two sides ended for a time.
