CTOnews.com, December 14 (Xinhua)-- Porsche is not a proponent of radical change, preferring to refine the details. This concept is also reflected in its first all-electric sports car, the Taycan Turbo S. Recent independent performance tests show that the sports car can reach its top speed faster than it did two years ago, a full improvement of one second.

According to Car and Driver, the new Taycan Turbo S has significantly improved its acceleration performance, accelerating faster at all stages before reaching a top speed of 150mph (241kph). For example, the car is better than ever in accelerating to 145 km / h, 193 km / h and 400 m straight line acceleration. CTOnews.com noted that in the 400m straight-line acceleration race, the time was improved from 209km / h in 10.5s to 212km / h in 10.3s.

Interestingly, despite the improvement in overall performance, the Taycan Turbo S's 0-60 mph (96 km / h) acceleration time has not changed. This implies the key mechanism behind the performance improvement-"overcharging (overboost)". The so-called overcharging is the ability of the motor to output more than the rated power in a short period of time.

Porsche was aware of the potential of overcharging when it first launched the Taycan, but it was also aware of the risk of potential damage to motors after long-term use. Therefore, as a precaution, Porsche limits the running time of the overcharging function to only 3 seconds at a time.

As Porsche has a better understanding of the usage habits of Taycan owners and the durability of motors running for a long time, their confidence in motors has gradually increased. As a result, Porsche has extended the supercharging function from the initial 3 seconds to 10 seconds now, allowing drivers to get a longer-term power boost.

This is why the Taycan Turbo S is faster in all acceleration tests except 60 mph (96 km / h), because the car has been able to accelerate in less than 3 seconds at that stage. It is not clear why Porsche did not mention it. It may be out of German humility, or it may be because these improvements have been gradually realized in two updates and two years.

It is worth mentioning that these enhancements can only be achieved in Sport Plus mode with the ejection start function.
