Apple says the information collected does not include photos or videos, but uses machine learning algorithms on the device to compare Apple Maps reference data sent to iPhone.

Apple says the camera filters out moving objects such as people and vehicles, while Apple only collects "map points" of stationary objects.

The data collected by Apple is encrypted and is not associated with a single user or Apple ID, and Apple also uses machine learning on the device to add "noise" to "map point" data to add irregular variations to prevent the possibility of using to reconstruct "map point" images from data.
