Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Brother Black fly's left hand clue delivery! CTOnews.com, December 14 (Xinhua)-- Spotify has taken it to court several times because of dissatisfaction with Apple's 30% cut, and they removed the option to allow new users to subscribe to the platform service through internal purchase in the iOS app as early as 2016.

The EU is preparing to crack down on Apple's App Store restrictions on music streaming competitors such as Spotify and could impose a 10 per cent fine on annual sales, according to Bloomberg.

EU regulators are conducting a final review of the decision and are expected to announce in early 2024 that Apple will be banned from "preventing music services from pushing users to subscription options other than App Store", according to sources.

To put it simply, Apple's App Store guide forbids App from letting users know that there are other ways to buy in its app in addition to the App Store internal purchase system (but allows developers to notify customers via email).

To address this problem, the EU is prepared to force Apple to allow competitors such as Spotify to guide users to subscribe in their App using payment methods other than internal purchase of the App Store app.

At first, both Spotify and Netflix supported the option for iOS users to subscribe directly through in-house purchase, but later this in-house mode was no longer open to new users because of disputes over the 30 per cent commission.

At present, Spotify Premium Hong Kong subscription is HK $68 (CTOnews.com Note: about RMB 62) per month, of course, you can also choose a family subscription of HK $108 or a student subscription of HK $38 per month.

It is worth mentioning that Spotify filed a lawsuit against Apple four years ago, and the European Union finally reached a preliminary conclusion in 2021 that App Store would "unfairly favor Apple Music over Spotify and other music streaming services." Spotify argues that it is anti-competitive not to let iPhone users know about other payment options.
