Shulou(Shulou.com)12/24 Report--
CTOnews.com December 12 news, the International Semiconductor Industry Association (SEMI) released the year-end Total Semiconductor equipment Forecast report, which is expected to reach 100 billion US dollars in global semiconductor manufacturing equipment sales by the end of this year, down 6.1 percent from 107.4 billion US dollars in 2022.
SEMI believes that weak demand will not last for long, and believes that investment in semiconductor equipment will rebound from 2024, forecasting that global sales of semiconductor equipment will reach a new high of $124 billion (CTOnews.com Note: about 890.32 billion yuan) in 2025.
Broken down by market segment, sales of semiconductor devices, including wafer processing, fab facilities and mask / mask equipment, are expected to fall 3.7 per cent to $90.6 billion in 2023 after hitting a new high of $94 billion in 2022.
SEMI believes that sales in the fab equipment sector are expected to grow by 3 per cent in 2024 as a result of increased memory chip capacity and halted expansion of mature capacity. Total investment in the industry has increased as new fab projects, capacity expansion and technology migration have increased, and such equipment is expected to grow by a further 18 per cent in 2025.
In the back-end equipment sector, SEMI predicts that sales of semiconductor test equipment will contract by 15.9% to $6.3 billion in 2023, while sales of packaging equipment are expected to decline by 31% to $4 billion. SEMI believes that the back-end market will return to growth in 2025, with sales of test equipment growing by 17% and sales of assembly and packaging equipment growing by 20%.
By application, SEMI believes that wafer foundry and logic application sales account for more than half of total fab equipment sales, but forecasts growth of 6 per cent to $56.3 billion in 2023, a contraction of 2 per cent in 2024, and another 15 per cent to $63.3 billion in 2025, given weak end-market demand.
SEMI analysts point out that storage-related capital expenditure shrank sharply in 2023, and sales of NAND devices are expected to fall 49 per cent to $8.8 billion in 2023, but grow 21 per cent to $10.7 billion in 2024 and a further 51 per cent to $16.2 billion in 2025.
In addition, SEMI forecasts that sales of DRAM devices are expected to remain stable, growing by 1 per cent in 2023 and 3 per cent in 2024. Sales of DRAM devices are expected to grow 20% to $15.5 billion in 2025, driven by HBM's high-bandwidth memory.
SEMI pointed out that China's equipment semiconductor equipment shipments are expected to reach a record of more than $30 billion by 2023 and will expand its lead over other regions. Analysts believe that while equipment spending in most regions will fall in 2023 and then rise in 2024, China is expected to contract moderately in 2024 after heavy investment in 2023.
