CTOnews.com, December 12 (Xinhua)-- Fiat launched the redesigned 500e in the United States last week, but many consumers scoffed at it because of its $32500 price and a range of only 149mph (CTOnews.com Note: 240km).

However, compared with the 500e concept car auctioned at Art Basel in Miami Beach, the mass production version is the price of cabbage. All three concept cars were sold at a valuation well above $50, 000 to $100000, fetching a total of $600000.

Of these, the 500e Kartell concept car sold for a staggering $275000, nearly nine times the price of the mass-production version. The concept car features blue window glass and six layers of "ecocrome" chrome paint, as well as rearview mirrors and wheels inspired by Kartell Kabuki lights, which sell for $1685. Other highlights include custom interiors, which use recycled polyester blends and transparent polycarbonate dashboards.

The 500e Bulgari and Armani versions sold for $175000 and $150000, respectively.

Fiat said the concept cars were "expressions of automotive art" and did not meet US motor vehicle safety standards, meaning they could not be sold in the US. This also means that the winning bidder will have to deal with some cumbersome procedures, as FCA US LLC or its subsidiaries will export all vehicles to Italy, the country of origin, prior to the sale and transfer of ownership. Once ownership is acquired in Italy, the winning bidder will receive documents relating to the export of the vehicle from Italy to the country of their choice.
