Recently, the 2023 World 5G Conference "5G and Intelligent Transportation Forum" was held in Zhengzhou. Li Yan, vice president of technical standards of Qualcomm, was invited to attend and delivered a speech. He said that Qualcomm is helping to accelerate the global deployment of C-V2X, especially actively supporting Chinese enterprises to carry out the integration of RSU equipment (roadside unit) and OBU equipment (vehicle unit). At present, Qualcomm has launched the second generation Snapdragon 5G modem and RF platform, and cooperated with Chinese enterprises to accelerate the landing of related products. He also pointed out that China, the United States, Europe, South Korea and other countries and regions are actively promoting the deployment of vehicle networking technology, among which China has played a leading role in the global C-V2X construction.

Li Yan said that China began to promote the landing of C-V2X a long time ago, and there are two key nodes. One is that in October 2018, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China issued the regulations on the Administration of the use of the 5905-5925MHz Band for directly connected Communications in vehicle networking (Intelligent Network connected vehicles), establishing the working frequency band for directly connected communications in vehicle networking, and laying the foundation for the development of C-V2X. The second is the "new four-span" (cross-chip modules, terminals, automotive companies, CA platform) activities in 2020 to solve the problem of interconnection between cross-domain and cross-industrial chains. At present, Qualcomm is working with China's automobile industry to develop intelligent Internet connected vehicles based on the second generation of Snapdragon 5G modems and RF platforms integrated with V2X core, so as to promote the rapid development of China's intelligent Internet connected vehicles.

According to Li Yan, the United States will establish the LTE-V2X communication band in 2020. In 2023, the United States issued a national C-V2X construction plan, which plans to deploy 100000 C-V2X crossings in the next five years and 250000 in the next decade, reaching 75% of all intersections in the United States.

The European side is discussing whether to choose C-V2X or ITS-G5 technical standards, which had previously preferred to promote ITS-G5. However, the European Union recently said that European countries can choose the technological route according to their own judgment of technology, so Europe has a technical standard system in which C-V2X and ITS-G5 coexist.

South Korea has been organizing relevant tests since 2021 and is expected to complete the tests by 2023, and the specific technical route will be jointly determined by the Ministry of Land and Transportation (MOLIT) and the Ministry of Science and Information and Communication Technology (MSIT). In addition, South Korea seeks to extend the corresponding technical standards to South Korea's 5100 km highway by 2024.

Generally speaking, China occupies a leading position in C-V2X, and has great advantages in technological research and development, infrastructure construction, industrial scale, market prospects, policy support and other aspects, and is in a leading position in C-V2X. Qualcomm is also actively cooperating with China's automotive industry chain to speed up the development and deployment of China's RSU equipment, as well as the front and rear loading of OBU equipment, through technologies and services such as Snapdragon Automobile 5G platform, so as to jointly promote the development of China's intelligent transportation system.
