CTOnews.com, 12 / 12 / PRNewswire-FirstCall-Asianet /-- Mercedes-AMG released the latest member of its iconic convertible SL, the SL 63 S E Performance, the first hybrid version in the car's history and the most powerful version.

As AMG's fifth plug-in hybrid, the SL 63 S E Performance will hit the market next year and will become one of the fastest convertibles on the market.

The car basically uses the same powertrain as the AMG GT 63 S E Performance and S63 E Performance cars, equipped with a 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 engine with a maximum power of 603hp, and combined with a 201hp rear motor, the comprehensive output power reaches an astonishing 804hp and the peak torque reaches 1420 Nm.

Thanks to its powerful powertrain, the SL 63 S E Performance has an acceleration time of only 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 315km / h, which is only slightly slower than the McLaren 750S and Porsche 911 Turbo S convertible versions.

The new car's braking system uses carbon ceramic brakes and is equipped with bronze color calipers for PHEV. The motor of the new car is connected directly to the rear axle and provides power during acceleration, overtaking and starting. It is connected to a two-speed gearbox that works with a six-speed automatic transmission that matches the engine and transfers power to the front wheel when the rear wheel begins to lose grip. The car is also equipped with a standard rear wheel steering system to improve low-speed and high-speed handling performance.

In order to provide better grip in high demand, the rear axle of the new car is equipped with a mechanical slip-limited differential, which is equipped with a "lightweight, high-performance" 400V battery pack developed jointly with the Mercedes-AMG F1 team. The battery pack has been specially developed to provide reliable performance output in high demand situations, with a special focus on improving heat dissipation, and the car can travel 13 kilometers in pure electric mode.

The new car offers eight driving modes: Electric, Battery Hold, Comfort, Smoothness, Sport, Sport Plus, Race and Individual, each with different throttle response, shift speed, steering force, sound and chassis damping. Up to four levels of energy recovery are available in each mode, allowing more than 100 kilowatts of power to be recycled into the battery pack.

According to CTOnews.com, the new car will only be powered by electricity when it starts, but the driver will hear the simulated engine sound of the V8 engine inside the car.

In terms of design, the car is basically consistent with the standard SL 63 AMG, but a charging port is added to the rear bumper and a red "E Performance" badge is added to the trunk and front wing.

The plug-in hybrid also features custom, aerodynamically optimized 20-inch or 21-inch alloy wheels, and more aerodynamic elements include carbon fiber front spoiler and duck tail rear spoiler.
