Shulou(Shulou.com)12/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, December 11 (Xinhua) according to the latest report released by TechInsights, global laptop shipments have declined for eight consecutive quarters since 2021, and shipments in 2023 are expected to be 27% lower than in 2021. However, there are signs that laptop shipments will recover.

Global laptop shipments are expected to increase by 11% in 2024 compared with 2023, according to an analysis by ▲ Touyuan TechInsights. The upgrade cycle of Windows 10 to 11, the growth of AI PC, and increased competition from ARM-based PC are expected to drive laptop shipments to a new high of about 240 million by 2025.

In October, both AMD and Nvidia were rumored to be designing ARM-based processors for PC, which will run Windows and will be available as early as 2025, TechInsights said.

They believe that although x86 processors are considered to have higher performance, they require more space, cooling, and power consumption. On the other hand, ARM focuses on efficiency, which seems to run counter to running large artificial intelligence task loads, but the smaller instruction set on ARM processors means they can decompose instructions faster and consume less power.

TechInsights also pointed out that Copilot, an artificial intelligence assistant added by Microsoft to Windows 11, is popular, but it hasn't fundamentally changed the way users use computers. However, if Windows 12 had artificial intelligence in mind from the beginning, the introduction of PC with artificial intelligence hardware, coupled with the enhanced Copilot, would become a more attractive product.
