CTOnews.com, December 8, according to the foreign technology media TechCrunch, a senior Apple engineer revealed to it that the Lockdown model has experienced many tests since it was launched more than a year ago, and so far there is no feedback and evidence that the model has been breached.

Apple issued a press release in July 2022, introducing breakthrough security features to further protect users' privacy and information security.

Lockdown is designed to provide optional extreme protection for a very small number of users. Because of their identity or the nature of their work, these users may be targeted by very advanced digital threats, such as attacks by private companies such as NSO Group that develop spyware at the behest of the state. Turning on Lockdown mode in iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura will further enhance device protection, strictly restrict some functions, and significantly reduce the attack surface, so as not to give highly targeted spyware opportunities.

The following protection features will be included when Lockdown mode is released:

Information: most information attachment types except pictures will be blocked. Some functions such as link preview will be disabled.

Web browsing: some complex network technologies such as just-in-time (JIT) JavaScript compiler will be disabled unless the user sets the whitelist of trusted sites in Lockdown mode.

Apple service: invitations and service requests such as FaceTime calls to the user will be blocked unless the user has previously made a call or request to the other party.

When the iPhone is locked, the wired connection to the computer or accessories will also be blocked.

When Lockdown mode is turned on, the profile cannot be installed and the device cannot join Mobile device Management (MDM).

Researchers received feedback in April that the Lockdown model had successfully fended off an attack on human rights defenders.

Citizen Lab (Citizen Lab) and Apple reported again in September that the Lockdown model helped Ahmed Eltantawy, a former Egyptian lawmaker, fend off a spyware attack called Predator.
