Thank you, Mr. Air, a netizen of CTOnews.com, for your clue delivery! CTOnews.com, December 8 (Xinhua)-- people familiar with the situation said that Ganesh Venkataramanan, head of Tesla's supercomputer "Dojo" project, left office last month, which is not a good thing for Tesla's self-driving skills, Bloomberg reported on Friday local time.

Ganesh has been in charge of Tesla's Dojo supercomputing project for five years. After he left, the head of the Dojo program was replaced by Peter Bannon, a former Apple executive who has seven years of executive experience at Tesla.

Dojo is Tesla's own customized supercomputer platform, used for artificial intelligence machine learning, to help train his autopilot vision skills, and so on. According to the report, Dojo uses custom D1 chips designed by Ganesh, Peter and other "bosses" of the silicon industry.

Tesla has also installed hardware for Dojo "in recent weeks" at a centralized location in Palo Alto, Calif., and it has been dependent on multiple data centers in different locations, according to two other people familiar with the matter. As of Wednesday local time, Ganesh had "disappeared" from Tesla's employee directory and at least one member of the team had left, one of them said.

The reasons for the departure of these executives or employees are not yet known, but their departure has dealt a blow to the project, which claims to be expensive and technologically advanced.

According to CTOnews.com, last year's Tesla 2022 AI Day officially showed off the latest results of its customized Dojo supercomputer, which consumed so much power that it tripped local substations.

In September, Morgan Stanley analysts said in a pre-market deal that month, Tesla's Dojo supercomputer could boost the popularity of self-driving taxis and software services, bringing nearly $600 billion (CTOnews.com Note: about 4.3 trillion yuan) to the electric carmaker's market capitalization.

Tesla began producing the Dojo supercomputer in July to train artificial intelligence (AI) models of self-driving cars and plans to spend more than $1 billion on Dojo by next year.
