CTOnews.com, December 7 (Xinhua) Brazilian Amazon Governor Wilson Lima recently spoke to the media, calling on Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to pay royalties for his company to use the rainforest name "Amazon".

"Amazon used the name of the Amazon state and the name of the Amazon region, but what did we get? we want an answer," Tuyuan Pexels Lima said in an interview with Brazil's O Globo.

He also said he planned to raise the issue at the COP28 climate summit in Dubai.

The politician also shared a video on Instagram, sending a message to Bezos from the perspective of Amazon rainforest: "your company delivers millions of products around the world and has the largest logistics park in the world. And me? I clean the air for the whole planet and have the largest biodiversity and rainforest in the world."

The narrator in the video said in Portuguese: "if your company is the most valuable in the world, then I can say that I am priceless. Since you used my name and I never made any profit from it, I invite you to come here to know better, Jeff."

The Amazon rainforest is also known as the "lungs of the earth" because it absorbs large amounts of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas that causes global warming. It also owns 10% of the world's known animal species, and the Amazon biological community covers about 2.5 million square miles.

Nearly 1/5 of tropical rainforests have disappeared in the past 50 years due to deforestation, according to the World Wildlife Fund.

Bezos' net worth surged $64 billion this year to $171 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 1.23 trillion yuan), making him the second richest person in the world. Amazon, which he founded, has a market capitalization of $1.5 trillion and is named after the Amazon River.

The billionaire donated $10 billion to his Bezos Earth Fund in 2020 to combat climate change. In June, the foundation, in partnership with Leonardo DiCaprio, launched a $200 million initiative to protect the Amazon rainforest.

Brazil unveiled a new $205 million fund to protect the Amazon rainforest at the COP28 summit on Saturday.
