Shulou(Shulou.com)12/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, December 7 (Xinhua) it is difficult for visually impaired people to participate in the sport of table tennis. But Australian students have developed a new system that can help visually impaired people participate in table tennis competitions.
For the visually impaired, there are two games similar to table tennis, Swish and Showdown, which make a sound when the ball moves, and the visually impaired can tap back and forth according to the sound.
Phoebe Peng (Phoebe Peng), a top engineering student at the University of Sydney, teamed up with ARIA Research, a derivative company from the University of Sydney, to bring her experimental new system.
She has also considered making table tennis sound, but this way will reduce the elasticity and speed of table tennis and affect the sports experience.
The experimental system built by Peng includes a traditional ping-pong table, a racket and a traditional ping-pong ball, but a series of speakers and two neuromorphological vision sensors (Neuromorphic) are installed on both sides of the table.
CTOnews.com Note: the concept of neuromorphology (Neuromorphic) was proposed in 1990, which uses large-scale integrated circuits to simulate the biological nervous system, also known as event cameras.
The event camera tracks the motion of the object in its field of view through the local change of brightness, and the position of the ball in three-dimensional space can be tracked in real time by combining the output of the two cameras.
The system uses a special algorithm to analyze the data to control the loudspeaker to generate a sound field that matches the current position of the ball.
The visually impaired can judge the current position of the ball by the sound of the loudspeaker. Peng says it takes a period of training for visually impaired patients to master it.
