According to the definition of 3GPP, there are six technical standards from Release15 to Release20 from 5G to 6G, R15 to R17 as the first stage of the 5G standard and R18 to R20 as the second stage of the 5G standard.

Wu Hequan also said that for mass users, regular 5G requirements can be supported directly through the existing 5G network, and some 5G-A functions can be realized on the existing 5G network only through software upgrades without new investment.

For some users with high demand to use 5G-A network, it is necessary to build new base stations. Wu Hequan stressed that the goal of 5G-An is not to replace 5G, but only to supplement 5G in hot spots or specific scenes. Although the future 6G aims to achieve seamless coverage, it only means that the capability can be achieved.

In terms of public network deployment, "5G-An is only an upgrade of 5G in terms of function and coverage. 5G-A does not need to be covered by the whole network, but only a 5G supplement to hot spots, which can save investment." Wu Hequan said that China Telecom and China Unicom jointly build a 5G network, the two share spectrum and base stations, and build their own core network independently, while the co-construction of shared wireless access network can also be extended to 5.5G network construction.
