CTOnews.com, December 7 (Xinhua)-- AMD plans to launch the Ryzen 8050 APU code-named Strix Point in 2024, powered by the XDNA 2 engine, focusing on improving its ability to handle AI tasks.

The AMD Ryzen 8050 "Strix Point" APU incorporates the Zen 5 CPU and RDNA 3.5 GPU cores, and embeds the latest XDNA 2 NPU and the more powerful Ryzen AI software suite, which improves performance by three times for generative AI requirements.

CTOnews.com Note: TOPS is an acronym for Tera Operations Per Second, and 1TOPS represents a processor that can perform 1 trillion operations per second.

The actual successors to the AMD Ryzen 7040 "Phoenix" APU will be Strix Point Mono and Strix Point Halo, both of which belong to the Ryzen 8050 APU series.

However, the Strix Point chip will provide a monolithic design with a mix of Zen 5 and Zen 5C cores, while higher-end Strix Halo chips will use a small chip design that uses only Zen 5 cores.

64MB shared three-level cache

The power consumption of 90W CPU is 25% faster than the 16 core Dragon Range.

40 RDNA 3 + Computing Unit

The nuclear display performance is equivalent to that of RTX 4070 Max-Q (90W).

256bit LPDDR5X memory controller

Integrated XDNA 2 engine

~ 50 TOPs AI engine

Release in the second half of 2024 (expected)

AMD Strix Point APU is expected to launch in the second half of 2024, and the first APU will start shipping to OEM next year and will compete head-to-head with Intel's Arrow Lake CPUs when it goes public.
