Thank you CTOnews.com netizen Mr. Aviation for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said today in a report on Apple's future iPad and Mac plans that Apple plans to update the MacBook Air around March 2024, while new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro models are in development.

Since Apple overhauled the MacBook Air design in 2022 and introduced a larger model in 2023, there will be no design changes for the 2024 model. The focus will be on new internal hardware, including an updated M3 chip.

The M3 chip, introduced earlier this year in updated MacBook Pro models, is the first chip manufactured on a 3-nanometer process, bringing performance and efficiency gains. Benchmarking of the M3 chip showed that its CPU was 21% faster and GPU 15% faster than the M2.

According to Gulman, Apple is working on macOS 14.3 and the new MacBook Air at the same time, macOS 14.3 is expected to be updated between the end of January and February, but the new MacBook Air may ship around March, at the same time as the new iPad Pro and iPad Air.

As for when other Macs will be updated, there is no word yet. MacBook Pro and iMac models were updated in October 2023, Mac mini was last updated in January 2023, and Mac Studio and Mac Pro were last updated in June 2023.

In the fourth quarter of fiscal 2023, Apple's Mac sales fell sharply. Mac revenue was $7.6 billion (CTOnews.com notes: currently about 54.416 billion yuan), down 34% from $11.5 billion in the fourth quarter of 2022. Apple expects Mac sales to rise after the MacBook Pro model launches in October, and an update to the MacBook Air in early 2024 will also help drive growth.
