CTOnews.com, December 7 (Xinhua)-- Apple senior executive Steve Hotelling (Steve Hotelling), who was responsible for the development of a number of key technologies, including iPhone's multi-touch screen, Touch ID and Face ID, is retiring from Apple, Bloomberg reported.
CTOnews.com noted that Hotelling recently served as Apple's vice president, reporting to Johny Srouji, senior vice president of hardware technology. When he retired, he oversaw touchscreen technology, health sensors and Face ID.
Over the years, Hotelling has played a key role in some of Apple's most important innovations, from the invention of Touch ID to advanced camera technology and ProMotion screen technology. He was also involved in the invention of the first iPhone and iPad multi-touch screens.
In addition, Hotelling is in charge of the company's camera engineering team and is involved in the development of custom sensors, and Apple is increasingly using photography as one of its main selling points. Hotelling also leads the depth sensing technology of augmented reality and the related components of tactile feedback and ProMotion high frame rate display.
A source who has worked with Hotelling told Bloomberg that in addition to Apple's chip work, Hotelling is the company's "biggest driver of innovation." Another colleague who has worked with Hotelling for a long time said: "No one is smarter than Steve."
Hotelling's responsibilities will be shared by several senior executives on Srugi's team.
His responsibilities will be assigned to several of Srugi's direct subordinates, including Alan Gilchrist (Alan Gilchrist), who takes over the company's camera and depth sensor team. Another executive, Wei Chen, is in charge of many display technologies.
Hotelling is also involved in the development of Vision Pro, which will go on sale in early 2024.
