CTOnews.com news on December 6, today, Shenzhen Consumer Council released news that new progress has been made in supporting consumers to file a class action case against Shenzhen Gome Electric Appliance Co., Ltd.: Gome series cases have been submitted to the Futian District people's Court, and the application for filing has been approved.

According to reports, from January 2022 to September 2023, a total of 470 complaints about Gome were received. Since then, the Shenzhen Consumer Council has interviewed and publicized Gome many times after accepting the complaint, but the company has not replied and the mediation work cannot be carried out further.

According to Article 37 of the Law of the people's Republic of China on the Protection of Consumer Rights and interests, "Consumer associations perform the following public welfare duties: (7) in respect of acts that harm the legitimate rights and interests of consumers, support the injured consumers to bring a lawsuit or bring a lawsuit in accordance with this Law."

The Shenzhen Consumer Council investigated this batch of consumer complaints and collected relevant data, and after analysis and study, it decided to support consumers to file a class action against Gome Electric Appliance Co., Ltd., and sue Gome Electric Appliance Co., Ltd. to the people's court in the form of a series of cases.

In November this year, the Shenzhen Consumer Council applied to the Futian District people's Court for the case, and successfully filed the case in December. CTOnews.com will continue to monitor the progress of the case.

Gome Electric Appliance Co., Ltd. was established in April 2003, the legal representative is Dong Xiaohong, with a registered capital of 1 billion yuan. The scope of business includes household appliance retail, household appliance sales, household appliance repair, household audio-visual equipment sales, household appliance spare parts sales, household appliance installation services and so on.

Risk information shows that at present, the company has hundreds of information about the person subject to execution, with a total amount of more than 3.4 billion yuan. In addition, the company also has a number of restrictions on consumption orders, breach of faith to be executed (Lao Lai) and final case information.

In addition, the number of employees at Gome has been declining in recent years. At the end of 2021, Gome still had 32278 employees, according to the Gome China News. But by the middle of last year, the number of employees at Gome had fallen to 25701, compared with 3609 at the end of the first half of this year.

Gome no longer has the dominant position it used to be. Although Huang Guangyu previously said that "strive to use the next 18 months to restore Gome's original market position", but now Gome is farther and farther away from this goal.
