CTOnews.com, Dec. 6 (Reuters)-Chinese electric carmaker Xilai plans to spin off its battery manufacturing division as part of its profitability, cost reduction and efficiency improvement, according to two people familiar with the matter.

People familiar with the matter said that the battery division of Xilai is led by senior manufacturing engineers, whose former employers, including Apple and Panasonic, could be spun off as early as the end of the year and will seek outside investors, with valuations to be decided later.

People familiar with the matter spoke on the condition of anonymity because the information was confidential, the report said.

Li Bin, CEO of Weilai, said at an earnings call on Tuesday that the company would continue to develop batteries internally. Weilai declined to comment on the latest revelation.

Weilai announced its third-quarter results yesterday. The revenue of Weilai Q3 was 19.0666 billion yuan, compared with 13 billion yuan in the same period last year, and the market is expected to be 19.373 billion yuan.

On the Q3 earnings call, Weilai said that at present, the charging pile business has basically broken even, and some investors are interested in NIO Power independent financing, and the possibility of NIO Power independent financing will not be ruled out in the future.

According to the CTOnews.com inquiry, as of December 6, 2200 exchange power stations had been arranged in the country, including 695 high-speed exchange stations, 3485 charging stations, 20455 charging piles and 960000 + square piles.

In November, Xilai delivered 15959 cars, an increase of 12.6% over the same period last year. From January to November 2023, a total of 142026 new cars were delivered, an increase of 33.1% over the same period last year. A total of 431582 new Weilai cars have been delivered.
