CTOnews.com, December 5 (Xinhua)-- the European Commission on Tuesday approved a national aid package worth 1.2 billion euros (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 9.288 billion yuan) to support cloud computing projects in Europe.

According to reports, the project, called "next Generation Cloud Computing Infrastructure and Services" (IPCEI CIS), aims to promote the participation of EU companies in the field of cloud computing and is co-sponsored by seven EU countries, including France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland and Spain.

IPCEI involves 19 projects from 19 companies. These direct participants will work together to develop Europe's first interoperable multi-provider cloud-edge continuum within the EU. The following figure shows the overall structure of IPCEI CIS:

The European Commission said these countries would provide up to 1.2 billion euros in public funds, which are expected to drive 1.4 billion euros (currently about 10.836 billion yuan) in private investment.

According to reports, the EU IPCEIs aims to pool research, financial and corporate resources to promote EU economic growth and competitiveness, and promote its green and digital transformation.

Previously, the European Union has approved six IPCEIs projects in the areas of batteries, hydrogen energy, microelectronics and communications technology. The European cloud computing project currently has 19 companies involved, including France's Atos and Orange, Deutsche Telekom, Telecom Italia and Telef ó nica.
