Recently, Ali Yun and the Intelligent Industry Research Institute of Tsinghua University (AIR) jointly launched the research on "Evolutionable agents based on large models" to explore the common basic technologies of Model agents (AI Agent) and improve the multilingual and multimodal capabilities of large models. This is the first special research on the integration of industry-university-research in evolutionable intelligence system, and it is also an important milestone in the sustainable evolution of artificial intelligence model capability.

Note: professor Liu Yang, executive dean of Intelligent Industry Research Institute (AIR) of Tsinghua University, signed a contract with Dr. Huang Fei, head of natural language intelligence in Alibaba Tongyi Laboratory, Zhang Yaqin, dean of AIR, and Zhou Jingren, CTO of Aliyun, attended the signing ceremony.

AI Agent is a real object that helps AI interact with the outside world, perceive external information, provide services or run programs, such as intelligent robots or intelligent sensors. AI Agent can form automated tasks, provide personalized services, assist decision-making, and help human beings transform the ability of AI model into the ability to solve practical problems. Such as voice assistant siri, network assistant Google Assistant and so on.

With the revolutionary breakthrough in the ability of large models, AI Agent will play an important role in more fields. In the next three years, Aliyun and Tsinghua AIR will jointly explore the common basic technologies of large model agents, such as the learning mechanism for large model agents, the improvement of the basic quality of single agents, etc., centering on the important direction of "evolving agents to continuously improve the ability of AI models"; explore innovative scenarios based on large model agents and accumulate key technologies of large model agents.

Zhang Yaqin, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of the Intelligent Industry Research Institute of Tsinghua University (AIR), said AIR is committed to carrying out practical and targeted scientific research. He said that the development of artificial intelligence is the mutual promotion and balance between Exploitation and Exploration. The development of Agent helps to improve the ability of models through Exploration. In the long run, it can also organize different agents to solve complex problems and continuously improve the ability of basic models.

At present, Aliyun is building the ModelScope-Agent open source agent framework of the open source community, which helps developers build their own Agent more easily, create an Agent with cool features by calling API in low code, and quickly register API as tool. It is also more convenient for developers to call. Zhou Jingren, CTO of Aliyun, said that AI Agent is an exciting research direction, which makes models as perceptual and sustainable as human beings. Aliyun is willing to give full play to the basic advantages of its model building and work with Tsinghua Intelligent Industry Research Institute (AIR) to promote leading scientific and technological innovation and transformation.

It is reported that Aliyun recently launched the 72 billion parameter model Qwen-72B, the 1.8 billion parameter open source model Qwen-1.8B, and the open source audio model Qwen-Audio. These basic models with different specifications and different application scenarios provide good basic conditions and broad test fields for continuously improving the ability of the model through AI Agent.
