CTOnews.com, December 5 (Xinhua)-- after the release of the report by market research firm Canalys, another market research firm IDC yesterday also released quarterly tracking data for global wearable devices in the third quarter of 2023.

According to data tracked by IDC, global wearable device shipments in the third quarter of 2023 were 148.4 million, up 2.6 percent from a year earlier, setting a record for the third quarter of the calendar year.

Driven by the epidemic, global wearable device shipments were 142.1 million in the third quarter of 2021 and 144.6 million in the third quarter of 2022. IDC believes that an important factor driving the growth of wearables this year is the rise of small brands and emerging categories.

CTOnews.com briefly summarizes the relevant data in the report as follows:

Apple shipped 29.9 million units in the third quarter of 2023, a decrease of 26.7% compared with the same period last year (40.8 million units), and a market share of 20.2%, a decrease of 8 percentage points compared with the same period last year.

Xiaomi shipped 11.6 million units in the third quarter of 2023, an increase of 36% over the same period last year (8.5 million units) and a market share of 7.8%, an increase of 1.9% over the same period last year.

Samsung shipped 10.7 million units in the third quarter of 2023, down 9.1% from the same period last year (11.8 million units), with a market share of 7.2%, down 1.1% from the same period last year.

Huawei shipped 8.5 million units in the third quarter of 2023, down 4.4% from the same period last year (8.9 million units), with a market share of 5.7%, down 0.5% from the same period last year.

Jitesh Ubrani, research manager of IDC mobile and consumer device trackers, said:

It has been ten years since the wearable device market started, and although there has been some integration, the market still has diversity in terms of brand and appearance.

Health and fitness tracking has come a long way since the original Fitbits and Pebble watches, but the biggest driver of wearable devices is smaller, more stylish designs.

Smart rings from new brands such as Oura, Noise, BoAT and Circular are expected to launch new dimensions in the coming quarters, while putting pressure on existing brands to innovate in health tracking.
