CTOnews.com, December 4 (Xinhua) the city of Chennai in Tamil Nadu was hit by heavy rain due to a typhoon. Foxconn and Pegatron have suspended production of Apple's iPhone as a result, people familiar with the matter told Reuters.

This is the second time that Hutchison has been forced to suspend production in recent months, the last time because of a fire in September.

Earlier this year, Piyush Goyal, India's commerce minister, said that about 5 per cent of iPhone was now made in India and that the company aims to increase that to 25 per cent.

According to Economic Times, Indian officials say Apple plans to produce more than 1 trillion rupees worth of iPhone in India in fiscal year 2023 to the first quarter of 2024. (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 86 billion yuan).

Apple shipped a record 2.5 million units in India in the third quarter to the end of September, according to market analyst Counterpoint Research.
