CTOnews.com, December 4, Airbus announced that the Airbus plant in Frederick Port, Germany has begun full production of six Galileo second-generation (G2) satellites, and the first satellite flight model structure has arrived in Zurich from Transcendental Gravity (Beyond Gravity Austria).

After initial preparation, the structures will be sent to other Airbus plants for final integration and testing in Frederick Port. The Galileo G2 satellite is scheduled to be launched in the next few years to support the initial deployment and verification of the G2 system.

CTOnews.com noted that Airbus had a coordinated production plan to meet the delivery of all six satellites within two years. The second satellite structure will arrive in early 2024 and the third satellite will arrive at the end of next year. Airbus uses a modular approach to build G2 satellites and will produce three spacecraft at the same time.

The G2 satellite will be equipped with enhanced navigation antennas, which will help improve the accuracy of European global navigation satellite systems; for the first time, they will be equipped with electric propulsion and higher-intensity navigation antennas that can be reconfigured in orbit with all-digital payloads.
