The company surveyed 519 college students on IT literacy, asking participants about their knowledge of shortcut keys and proficiency with web conferencing tools.
When asked about their understanding of shortcut keys, Ctrl + C (copy) was the most recognized at 62.6%, followed by Ctrl + V (paste) at 59.2%. It can be seen that about 40% of respondents do not know the shortcut key of copy and paste. The third most recognized shortcut is Ctrl+Z (Undo), which accounts for 30.6%.
When asked about their computer ownership, 83.0 percent said they owned a laptop, 12.7 percent said they owned a desktop computer, and 5.8 percent of college students answered no.
CTOnews.com notes that when asked how often they use the mouse, about 60 percent of people answered "I use it often"(31.0 percent) and "I use it sometimes"(32.2 percent). On the other hand, more than 30% of respondents answered "hardly used"(29.9%) and "never used"(6.9%).
When asked about their proficiency with web conferencing systems such as Zoom and Google Meet, more than 70 percent answered "I can do it"(19.1 percent) and "I can do it fairly well"(51.4 percent). About 60 percent of respondents answered yes to Word, Excel and Powerpoint proficiency, with 13.1 percent saying yes and 48.7 percent saying they could do it very well.
Takashi Yokoyama, CEO of WHITE, pointed out that "even in today's universities, there are still not enough opportunities to learn how to use PC correctly, which is why this results. "
The survey was conducted online between Oct. 27 and Nov. 1 among 519 university students across Japan.
