CTOnews.com, December 3 (Xinhua)-- Nissan is accelerating the transformation of electric vehicles after announcing that it would phase out fuel vehicles and plans to achieve 100% electrification in Europe by 2030.

Last week, the company revealed that it would invest 3 billion pounds (CTOnews.com Note: about 27.15 billion yuan) to produce three new electric cars at its Sunderland plant, including two new electric models and the next generation leaf (LEAF). It is said that the new car will undergo a major upgrade.

A Nissan source told the European Automotive News that the next generation of Nissan Leaf will be launched at the end of next year.

In addition, Nissan plans to transform its two best-selling SUV Juke and Qashqai models into pure electric models. The Qashqai is said to be the best-selling car in the UK last year, while the Juke has sold more than 1 million vehicles.

The new electric car will be based on the Nissan concept car, in which the design of the Qashqai may be inspired by the Hyper Urban concept car, while the Hyper Punk concept car seems to be a source of inspiration for the Juke.

Sales of Nissan leaf leaves in Europe fell 31 per cent to 11568 in the year to October, according to Dataforce research. At the same time, Chinese competitors such as BYD and SAIC Mingjue are experiencing rapid growth.

According to Nissan sources, the new generation of leaf will be closer to the brand's first electric SUV model, the Nissan Ariya. Nissan said the new leaf will be designed with reference to its Chill-Out concept car.

The concept car is based on the CMF-EV platform used by Nissan's Ariya and is equipped with Nissan's e-4ORCE electric four-wheel drive control system, while the new leaf will be "completely redesigned" and does not seem to inherit the design features of the previous two generations.

Its battery will come from the battery factory that Nissan is currently building, and the new generation of battery (Gen5) will have a 30% higher energy density than the 62 kWh battery currently used by Nissan Leaf, increasing its battery life to 239 miles, the same as the Volkswagen ID.3 (77 kWh batteries can run 343 miles).
