CTOnews.com, December 3 (Xinhua)-- BMW has applied for the "iM3" trademark, a move that has sparked speculation that BMW will launch a high-performance electric vehicle that combines an electric "I" logo with a performance "M" logo. However, Frank van Meel, head of BMW's M department, was quick to clarify the rumors.
In an interview with Top Gear magazine, van Meel said BMW would "never" use both "I" and "M" logos on the same car. "even for electric cars, we don't use the'i' logo on M-series models," he said.
Van Meel added: "if we really want to do something like this, it will always be named M without'I 'because it's just a technical thing, and M is not just technology, it's a commitment, it's about motorsport, it's about emotion, it's not about power systems."
CTOnews.com noted that BMW already has four electric cars with the M logo-the iX M60, the i4 M50, the i5 M60 and the i7 M70. In addition, BMW also launched a field test of a four-motor performance prototype in 2022, which looks like the 3-Series. As a result, BMW's Neue Klasse electric platform is bound to give birth to a performance electric car, but it will not be called iM3.
