CTOnews.com, December 3 (Xinhua) Microsoft recently raised the price of Xbox Series S by as much as 35% in Brazil, from 2649 reais to 3599 reais (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 5250 yuan), which is even higher than Sony's PlayStation 5.

Phil Spencer, chief executive of Microsoft's games division, responded to the price increase in a recent interview with Brazilian media FlowGames, expressing support for the company's decision to raise the price of Xbox products in Brazil and saying it was essential to maintain business in the region.

Spencer revealed that Microsoft has been "mandatory" to keep the pricing of Xbox products unchanged for the past three years, minimizing profits and harming the "sustainability" of the business. He said that due to differences in government policies, consumption base and market competitiveness, regional markets cannot be compared directly.

Spencer also said that even after the price rise, Microsoft's profit margin in terms of Series S sales in Brazil is likely to be "the lowest in the world". For him, Microsoft's main goal in the Brazilian market is future development and long-term positioning, giving priority to long-term interests rather than short-term financial gains.

Asked how much impact rising prices would have on Brazilian consumers, Spencer expressed sympathy, saying he was "full of respect" for them. However, he stressed once again that Microsoft attaches importance to its position in the Brazilian industry and that price increases are inevitable in order to remain competitive.
