Shulou(Shulou.com)12/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, December 1 (Xinhua)-- according to the latest report released by market research firm Counterpoint Research, global smartphone shipments are estimated to be 312 million units in the fourth quarter of 2023, up 3% from a year earlier, but global smartphone shipments are 1.2 billion units, down 5% from a year earlier, the lowest level in nearly a decade.

The report says the smartphone market in North America (NAM) and Europe remains stagnant, while markets such as China, the Middle East and Africa (MEA) and India have begun to recover and show momentum for growth.

The report says Apple is still the global market leader, but sales are expected to fall 3% in the fourth quarter of 2023 compared with the same period last year due to Huawei's aggressive domestic expansion and the lengthening upgrade cycle for Japanese smartphone users.

However, Apple will try to add value through a better product portfolio to offset the slump in sales. In the fourth quarter of 2022, the iPhone 14 Pro series accounted for 61% of shipments in the entire iPhone 14 series. However, the share of the iPhone 15 Pro series in the iPhone 15 series is expected to increase to 65% in the fourth quarter of 2023.

The report says Huawei achieved great success in the third quarter of 2023, driven by the new Mate 605G series and the old P-series 4G devices. Assuming Huawei can expand its Kirin SoC capacity through a partnership, the brand is expected to continue to grow 37 per cent year-on-year in 2024.

Smartphone shipments in 2024 are expected to grow by 3% year-on-year after destocking ends with relatively healthy inventory at the end of the year. The recovery in emerging markets will be more pronounced, supported by increased consumer confidence and improved macroeconomic conditions.

Liz Lee, deputy director of the agency, said:

India to maintain the momentum of high-end, is expected to become Apple's new growth focus. Apple's shipments in India are expected to grow by 23% in 2024 compared with the same period last year.

However, as Apple underperforms Huawei in China, its global market share will inevitably decline year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2023 and 2024.
