Because of this, the debate about "which is better or worse" between plug-in hybrid and extended-range hybrid technology has never stopped.

After an energy conversion in this process, it is not as efficient as the direct drive of the engine, and the fuel economy is slightly inferior to the "plug-in hybrid".

Therefore, consumers can feel the most intuitive point at the experience level: in urban road conditions, their final fuel consumption gap will not be too big, but if in continuous highway conditions, extended range hybrid cars often lead to the problem of "high fuel consumption" because of "power loss".

This is also the most obvious advantage of plug-in hybrid technology in terms of energy efficiency. The rapid growth of plug-in hybrids is largely due to BYD. as the leader in plug-in cars, BYD sold 123000 DM-i models in June, accounting for nearly 60% of the entire plug-in market. In October, BYD sold 135590 DM models, up 18.6 per cent from a year earlier.

One of the core components of BYD's DM-i super hybrid system, the engine specially built for DM-i super hybrid technology, once won the title of mass-produced gasoline engine with the highest thermal efficiency in the world with 43 per cent thermal efficiency.

For automakers, add-program hybrid is a low-threshold, low-cost technology with significant cost advantages, but in fact, many extended-range hybrid models are more expensive than plug-in models of the same class. Behind this, on the one hand is the advocacy of public opinion, in fact, it is the lack of cost control ability of the relevant car companies.
