November 30 news, Tesla electric pickup truck Cybertruck is about to start delivery. Us media believe that although Elon Musk (Elon Musk) is no longer popular, but if Tesla can provide official film service for this car, it will not only attract more consumer attention, but also help to reduce the cost of the whole car.

The Cybertruck designed and manufactured by Tesla is made of stainless steel, which is the first mainstream car that does not need spray painting. DeLorean, the US car company, has launched similar products before, but it sold only 9000 cars before it filed for bankruptcy in 1982.

However, when Tesla starts delivering the Cybertruck on Thursday, he may use a means that Delaureen cannot achieve: color car film. Tesla has been trying to sell the lucrative auto parts in the California market, making the appearance more attractive to mainstream buyers by putting decorative film on the outside of the car.

"with these packages, it will look more attractive," said Jessica Jessica Caldwell, director of in-depth research at Edmunds, an automotive industry information service, while browsing through a test version of Cybertuck with a custom print. Caldwell says the sleek SUV has long dominated the market, but now the industry is clearly beginning to shift towards more angular "masculine" car design. Tesla just "may have gone a little too far".

Wrapping a car with a color film is nothing new. The film can give cars different colors and appearance, such as making a Ferrari look like a chrome bullet or turning an ordinary van into an eye-catching billboard. Although some people think the Cybertruck looks like a refrigerator with wheels, others see it as a blank canvas.

Most car films usually need to be installed by a third-party car maintenance agency. In October, Tesla quietly began providing official coating services for Model 3 and Model Y, which may be the first trial run in the automotive industry before the delivery of the first Cybertruck.

It is not clear whether Tesla will provide an official film service for Cybertruck, but when asked in 2020 if Cybertruck would be packaged in color, Musk replied: "you can wrap it in any color or pattern."

There are usually two types of film: vinyl protective film and color paint protective film (PPF). Vinyl protective films are relatively cheap, usually priced between $3000 and $5000, and offer more customized options. The price of color paint protective film is almost twice that of the former, but it has better durability and protective performance.

Tesla provides color paint protective film for Model 3 and Model Y, which can resist dirt and automatically repair minor scratches. Scratches caused by automatic car washers usually disappear within 48 hours, Tesla said. The film, which costs between $7500 and $8000, is available in seven colors, from "satin rose gold" to "satin invisible black".

It is not clear whether Tesla will provide custom film service for Cybertruck, but according to pictures from the beta version of Cybertruck, there are at least 10 body patterns and logo designs, which usually can only be modified through vinyl protective film. Some Cybertruck doors are painted brightly on both sides, some are modified to look like Ford Fmur150 and Toyota Tundra, and others appear in unusual camouflage colors.

Providing official film for Cybertuck may have been part of Tesla's plan from the very beginning. When Tesla began to design the Cybertuck, the company had just experienced the "production hell" of Model 3 electric cars. According to Musk, this almost bankrupt the company. Many of these problems come from paint workshops.

Automotive coatings are expensive and require particularly meticulous treatment. If the chemicals are not properly prepared, it can lead to clogging, premature condensation, wrinkling and shedding of the paint surface. At the same time, the paint workshop is also the largest source of pollution in automobile factories, accounting for more than half of carbon dioxide emissions and more than 95% of toxic volatile organic compounds emissions. However, the advent of Cybertruck provides Tesla with the opportunity to avoid paint workshop problems completely.

The provision of Cybertruck official film service may bring high profits. The materials used for film application are not expensive, and most of the costs are related to the tedious man-hours required for film application. The film must be stretched, flattened, cut, and accurately affixed to each headlight, door handle, sign and decoration. The smooth appearance of Cybertruck seems to be specially designed for sticking film, making it easy to apply film.

The optional $8000 patch plus $12000 of Tesla's advanced driving assistance function, fully autopilot (FSD), may help reduce the starting price of the Cybertruck and attract more price-sensitive consumers. If Tesla wants to achieve his goal of selling 250000 electric pickups a year, it is crucial to capture multiple segments of the pickup market.

Even if Tesla doesn't provide official film service at first, third-party manufacturers won't miss the opportunity, as they have been preparing for the release of Cybertruck since 2019. Wrapmate, a vinyl film company based in Colorado, said the price of a custom film for an Cybertruck would be $4163, including design and installation services provided by collaborative car maintenance agencies across the United States.

"for companies, I think it's a good idea," says Mr Caldwell. "obviously, Cybertruck will stand out on the road, and if you put a corporate logo on it, it will attract more attention."

Based on past experience, Tesla is likely to spend a lot of time doing stunts at Thursday's delivery event to convince customers of the durability of the Cybertruck. For example, they might show footage of a small-caliber bullet hitting a car door, showing the vehicle's off-road ability in the mud and the equivalent of 1000 horsepower.

However, Caldwell says the biggest test may be whether consumers are willing to drive the car in public. She said that Musk's frequent voices over the past year have caused a lot of social divisions, which will only bring more problems to the owners of such an eye-catching car.

"people wanted to stand with him, which really helped Tesla sell cars," Caldwell said. "but now, they launch this car at a time when Musk's popularity is very different. People won't be so forgiving."
