CTOnews.com, November 29, according to the official website of Wuhan University, on the morning of November 29, Lei Jun, founder, chairman and CEO of Xiaomi Group, an alumnus of Wuhan University's computer Science Department of Class 1987, donated 1.3 billion yuan to his alma mater. Lei Jun said that the donation mainly focuses on three directions: supporting the basic research of the six disciplines of mathematics, physics, chemistry, literature, history and philosophy, supporting scientific and technological innovation in the computer field, and supporting the training of college students.

Lei Jun said that when he was a student at WUU more than 30 years ago, he had two wishes. The first wish was that he was awarded the highest scholarship at that time, 2000 yuan, sponsored by an enterprise as an outstanding student representative. At that time, I secretly swore in my heart, "how many scholarships I receive today, I will pay back ten times, a hundred times, and ten thousand times in the future."

The second wish: when the Shaw Building was completed in 1991, it was the best teaching building of WUU at that time. I had a small dream. If I had the ability in the future, I would like Shaw to donate a building to WUU. A dream of many years ago has finally come true this year.

He said that the donation mainly focuses on three directions: hoping to support the research of the six basic disciplines of mathematics, physics, chemistry, literature, history and philosophy, supporting scientific and technological innovation such as the research and development of core technologies at the bottom of the computer, and supporting the training of college students. "I hope that through a little bit of my own modest efforts, I will support Wuhan University to create a more brilliant history in the future, so that there will be more outstanding engineers, scientists and technology entrepreneurs in China!"

Full text of speech by Lei Jun attached to CTOnews.com:

Dear Secretary Huang, President Zhang, distinguished leaders and distinguished guests, good morning, everyone!

Just now, President Zhang, on behalf of his alma mater, awarded me the Award for Outstanding contribution to Education. I was very excited.

After graduating from Wuhan University, my alma mater gave me two honors: the title of Outstanding Alumni in 2003 and the Award for contribution to Education today.

This is the most important honor in my life. I would like to thank my alma mater for its recognition.

Today is a happy day to celebrate the 130th anniversary of Wuhan University. At the same time, it is also the moment when an important wish comes true.

I personally donated 1.3 billion cash to my alma mater as a birthday gift to support the development of basic disciplines, scientific and technological innovation and the cultivation of college students in WUU.

More than 30 years ago, when I was a student at Wuhan University, I had two wishes:

The first wish: more than 30 years ago, as an outstanding student representative, I was awarded the highest scholarship of Wuhan University at that time, fully 2000 yuan, sponsored by an enterprise. For a student from an ordinary county family, this is really a huge sum of money. To this day, I still remember clearly the feeling of excitement and pride at that time. At that time, I secretly swore in my heart, "how many scholarships I receive today, I will pay back ten times, a hundred times, and ten thousand times in the future." In 1997, six years after graduation, I began to donate to my alma mater. My salary was only 4000 yuan. I began my vow journey by donating money to set up a Lei Jun Scholarship (then called Tengfei Scholarship) in the computer School, which has been donated for 26 years now. Today, I have finally fulfilled my wish to return ten thousand times.

The second wish: when the Yifu Building was completed in 1991, it was the best teaching building in Wuhan University at that time. I really felt very happy when I was in class. I have a small dream. If I have the ability in the future, I will donate a building to Wu University like Mr. run run Shaw. A dream of many years ago has finally come true this year.

Why donate? First of all, love for my alma mater. Wu University taught me knowledge, let me learn the method of learning, guided me to embark on the lifelong road of scientific and technological exploration, and gave me the most important wealth of my life. Over the years, I always think of the support given to me by my alma mater, and my heart is always full of gratitude. In my mind, Wuhan University is the best university in the world, not one of them. I think all the alumni think the same way. In order to make Wu University better and better, everyone can give back to his alma mater with practical actions. Donating money, I never advocate keeping up with the comparison. This activity has a lot of alumni donations, each donation is alumni's love for the alma mater, the weight is the same. The last time I donated a building, I offered to be one yuan less than Chen Dongsheng. So, in Lei Junlou, I donated 100 million yuan less than one yuan. This time, the donation of 1.3 billion in cash was also discussed with senior Chen Dongsheng and received his support. Mainly for the 130th anniversary of the alma mater, 1.3 billion to express a gift.

This donation mainly focuses on three directions: I hope to support the research on the six basic disciplines of mathematics, physics, chemistry, literature, history and philosophy, support scientific and technological innovation such as the research and development of the core technology at the bottom of the computer, and support the training of college students. Hope that through a little bit of their own modest efforts, to support Wuhan University in the future to create a more brilliant history, so that China has more excellent engineers, scientists and technology entrepreneurs!

Thanks again to Wuhan University, to the school, to all the leaders and teachers, to all the people who have done a lot of work behind this donation, thank you all!
