Lei Jun said that the donation mainly focuses on three directions: supporting the basic research of the six disciplines of mathematics, physics, chemistry, literature, history and philosophy, supporting scientific and technological innovation in the computer field, and supporting the training of college students.

CTOnews.com inquiry found that the donation refreshed the largest single donation since the founding of Wuhan University, and it was also the largest individual alumni cash donation received by a university in the country.

As an iconic outstanding alumnus of Wuhan University, Lei Jun completed all the credits needed for four years in only two years while studying at Wuhan University. Shortly after graduation, he joined Beijing Jinshan Software Co., Ltd. and led the company all the way to growth. In April 2010, Lei Jun founded Xiaomi Company.

Lei Jun has said more than once that Luo Jiashan is the place where dreams begin, and the professional knowledge and learning ability he learned at Wuhan University laid a good foundation for his subsequent entrepreneurship.

In order to be grateful and give back to his alma mater, in 1997, only six years after graduation, Lei Jun began to donate to his alma mater and set up a "take-off Scholarship" at Wuhan University. Lei Jun has donated to his alma mater a number of donation projects, such as "Lei Jun Scholarship", "Lei Jun Science and Technology Building", "Anti-COVID-19 Fund", and so on, totaling 130 million yuan. On October 20, 2016, Lei Jun donated to support the construction of an artificial intelligence teaching and research building at Wuhan University, which just came into use on June 20 this year.

Lei Jun said that the title of "Outstanding Alumni" won in 2003 and the "Outstanding Educational contribution Award" won this time are not only the recognition of his alma mater, but also the most important honor in his life. He recalled affectionately that when he was a student at Wuhan University more than 30 years ago, he had made two wishes: because he had received a "huge amount" of 2000 yuan in scholarship at that time, he silently vowed in his heart, "I will return it ten times, a hundred times and ten thousand times in the future." Because I was very happy to have classes in the Yifu Building, the best teaching building of WUU at that time, I made a wish to donate a building to WUU, and now both wishes have come true. " Wu University taught me knowledge, let me learn the method of learning, guided me to embark on the lifelong road of scientific and technological exploration, and gave me the most important wealth of my life. " Lei Jun said that over the years, he has always been grateful to his alma mater. This is not only my own feeling, but also the common idea of all alumni.

In order to make WUU better and better, everyone can give back to his alma mater with practical actions. In particular, he said that with regard to donations, he has never advocated comparison. Many alumni actively donated money to celebrate the 130th anniversary of Wuhan University. Each donation is the love of alumni for their alma mater and carries the same weight. He also said that when he donated the teaching building, he offered to donate one yuan less than his alumnus Chen Dongsheng, so he donated 100 million less than one yuan. This 130th anniversary celebration, donated 1.3 billion yuan in cash, also discussed with Chen Dongsheng alumni, and received support to present to the 130th anniversary of the alma mater.

At the same time, he hopes that through this donation, Wuhan University will be supported to make more brilliant achievements in the future, so that China will have more outstanding scholars, engineers, scientists and science and technology entrepreneurs.
