CTOnews.com, Nov. 29 (Xinhua)-- Meta lost a court battle with FTC on Monday, local time, when a judge ruled that FTC could require the company to make less money from users under the age of 18. Meta said on Tuesday that it would appeal the ruling.

Meta said in a court filing on Tuesday that it would appeal the decision of District Court Judge Timothy Kelly of the District of Columbia to the District Court of Appeal for the District of Columbia.

The main focus of the debate over Tuyuan Pexels is whether the FTC can unilaterally tighten earlier rules to restrict Meta from making money from young users.

The dispute began in May, when FTC proposed revising the settlement reached in 2019, requiring Facebook, which became Meta in 2021, to pay $5 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 35.7 billion yuan).

The agency also accused Meta of misleading parents about the extent to which they could control who their children contacted in the Messenger Kids app.

The FTC said it would tighten the 2019 settlement, banning Meta from making money from data collected by users under the age of 18, including in its virtual reality business. The company will also face more restrictions on the use of facial recognition technology.
