CTOnews.com, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) Indian Minister of Electronics and Information Technology (Ashwini Vaishnaw) recently tweeted that India's smartphone market has grown 20-fold in the past nine years.

Image source: WikiMediaVaishnaw tweeted that 78 per cent of Indian smartphones were imported in 2014, while 99.2 per cent of smartphones sold in India were made locally in 2023.

According to the report, the output value of India's smartphone market reached 3.5 trillion rupees in 2022-2023, compared with 2.75 trillion rupees in 2021-2022, an increase of 27 percent over the same period last year.

CTOnews.com previously reported that Indian officials said Apple plans to produce more than 1 trillion rupees (currently about 86 billion yuan) worth of iPhone in India in fiscal year 2023 to the first quarter of 2024, according to Economic Times.

The report says Apple has now accelerated the progress of its Indian factories and continuously improved its products, achieving production worth more than 600 billion rupees (currently about 51.6 billion yuan) in the first seven months of the fiscal year.

Indian officials say that even if Apple fails to reach the milestone of 1 trillion rupees this fiscal year, there is plenty of confidence that Apple will achieve that goal in the next fiscal year (by the first quarter of 2025).
