CTOnews.com, Nov. 28 (Xinhua)-- Tumblr, founded in 2007, was once the largest light blogging site in the world. Since December 4, 2018, the site began to clean up the "adult content" on the platform, resulting in a cliff decline in the daily active users of the site.

Tumblr now announces that it will cancel the Post Plus feature. This feature allows creators to charge users for subscriptions. As of December 1, creators will no longer be able to enable Post Plus.

However, existing Post Plus content will remain visible until the end of this year, but will be changed to "private" content from January 2024. Creators will no longer be able to create new Post Plus content, and subscribers will no longer be charged.

In fact, it was revealed a few weeks ago that the platform planned to downsize due to substandard user numbers and revenue. At the time, Matt Mulenweig, chief executive of Automattic, the parent company of Tumblr, said the company planned to focus on the "core functions" of Tumblr.

The Post Plus feature will be launched in 2021 and is the first feature that Automattic will reduce next.

Since Tumblr was acquired in 2019, we have spent $100 million (CTOnews.com Note: currently about RMB 715 million) trying to reverse the site's daily active users, but to this day we have not achieved this goal.

As we've been telling the Tumblr team for more than a year, if we can't get revenue, we need to implement backup plans to ensure existing business, which do generate revenue and support employees' salaries.

We will not let employees leave, but most of the Bumblr 139 people will be transferred to other departments (note: Bumblr is the product and marketing team of Tumblr), and customer support and service as well as trust and security staff will stay and continue to work.

In a post on Tumblr, employees of the platform said they originally introduced Post + to support and support many outstanding creators. However, the company said the feature was "not as successful as we had hoped" and decided to stop it after considering feedback and usage.
