CTOnews.com, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) according to overseas blogger AssembleDebug, Google has quietly added support for Ultra HDR format images to the RCS messages of the native Android SMS app, which will be available on the Android 14 operating system.

At present, however, the only devices that support taking photos in Ultra HDR format are Google's own Pixel 8 phones. After taking Ultra HDR images, users can use the "SMS" application to send photos to other users in the form of RCS messages.

According to previous reports from CTOnews.com, Ultra HDR format is a new feature of Google's Android 14 operating system, and photos taken in Ultra HDR format will be stored in high dynamic range of 10-bit. Due to the need for hardware support, the initial launch is limited to Android flagship models, and officials have previously confirmed that Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will support the new Ultra HDR format photo shooting.

Google hopes that Ultra HDR format will become the default format for system built-in camera applications and third-party camera applications. Google's Android team worked with Qualcomm and other companies earlier this year to optimize hardware and support Ultra HDR in other device forms.

RCS is a new generation of international standard for message service. The new generation of information service platform created by telecom operators can make "information is platform, user is customer, mobile phone is application".

Apple has promised to adopt RCS in 2024, but will not use Google's end-to-end encryption extension. Google subsequently issued a statement through AppleInsider, a foreign technology media, welcoming Apple to join. Google said:
